Subaru introduced the XT in 1985 as a radical departure from the rest of its offerings. Not only did the car incorporate an extreme wedge design, it featured a number of unusual features for the time that included a single front wiper blade, pistol-grip shifter, a tilt and telescoping steering column, pneumatic suspension system, and available push-button 4-wheel drive. Production ended in 1991.
Equipment includes Subaru's gear "Hill Holder" system, pop-up headlights, cloth upholstery, automatic front shoulder belts, power windows and locks, air conditioning, and an AM/FM radio.
Power comes from a 1.8-liter flat-4, rated at approximately 97 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the front or all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.
Modifications are limited to 14-inch alloy wheels from an XT Turbo and the replacement of the OEM air suspension system with conventional components.
Total Mileage on chassis 102,300 Original engine had bad head gaskets and upon further inspection the heads had developed small cracks. A replacement engine was sourced from a 1989 Subaru XT GL with just 33,000 documented miles and installation was completed on February 14th 2023. During the installation a new timing belt kit was installed along with a full engine gasket & seal kit. New spark plugs & plug wires also installed. The clutch assembly was inspected and found to be recently replaced. The power steering pump was also replaced as well as a new radiator and hoses at this time along with fresh oil & filter. All fluids inspected and changed as needed. Previous owner installed the XT Turbo Allot wheels & new tires, front brake rotors & pads. The 4-wheel drive vacuum line was also replaced. The Subaru runs and drive extremely well, and the engine runs smooth and has lots of power. Transmission and all wheel drive system operate smoothly & quietly.
