1965 ACADIAN BEAUMONT CONVERTIBLE — Live on Bring a Trailer

Extremely rare Canadian Built Beaumont Sport Deluxe Convertible 1 of only 133 convertibles built out of a total production run of 8,910 Beaumont models built in 1965 model year. Acadian Beaumonts are basically a variation of Chevrolet Chevelle built in Canada with a Pontiac Twist! Many people considered the cars to be Pontiacs, but GM marketed them as a separate marque. I was told the Previous owner had the car for over 15 years and enjoyed driving to car shows and cruise - in events!

Powered by a surprisingly peppy 230 Cubic Inch straight 6 cylinder followed up 2 speed Powerglide transmission with a floor mount shifter. The car runs and drives very good, transmission shits properly and this baby cruises right on down the road. Features include manual steering and brakes. No Power assist needed! Steering is nice and tight, shocks do their job, brakes work good with no surprises. Goes down the road straight with no unusual rattles or shakes. Tires are 205/75/R14 TRIUMPH Steel Belted Radials with good tread mounted on vintage Chrome American Racing wheels. An oil and filter change was performed just prior to my purchase. Some oil spray is present on bottom of engine but car does not drip and mark its place in garage.

Interior features front bucket seats and rear bench seat that have been recovered mottled red vinyl and red cloth with custom pleats and buttons. Interior door panels & kick panels appear to be original, drivers side arm rest has been re covered. A custom convertible boot has been crafted out of the same hi grade vinyl as the seats. Dash is all steel and is finished in same red as exterior with a Black Bezel around the Dash face / instrument panel. There is a spot on top of dash on drivers side right at base of windshield to left of defroster vent that paint is peeling but very hard to notice (see photos for details). Gauges include a speedometer , clock (not working), combo gauge with fuel level and temp warning light and another combo gauge with Battery and Oil Pressure warning lights, covers over gauges are a little hazy (see photos & video) . Turn signals work but the indicators are wired up wrong. There is also a switch under dash for power top that has been disconnected. All glass is good and manual window mechanisms operate correctly with the drivers window needing a little tweek occasionally. An aftermarket radio / cassette player is installed in the place of the stock radio. There are no speakers hooked up at this time.

The convertible top is new and has a been installed with a new rear window and new pads for a correct fit. The car was originally equipped with a power top mechanism but that has been removed so top operation is now fully manual and easy to operate. A top boot is included but is a bit hard to install.

The chrome trim, bright work and emblems including original pot-metal are present except for the ACADIAN lettering on the Grille and on the the rear trim panel. Please see detailed photos of all trim pieces as they are not new, some have light corrosion, and are in the condition expected for a car of this age. Trim around the grille is not fitted properly but looks ok. Please be sure to look at all the photos and ask any questions you may have.

Undercarriage, frame rails, suspension all appear solid with some surface rust but no rust through. Floor boards and trunk also appear to be solid (see many detailed photos of underside of car). No rattles or shakes while driving.

Previous owner stated that some of the paint is original, paint color and fading seems very consistent over all. Looks fantastic from 20 feet, good from 10 feet. There are several scratches and scrapes. Evidence of prior body work is visible in many areas including some bondo cracks, rust repair, bubbling, paint cracking and peeling on various parts of the car. Please look closely at all of the very detailed photos.

Bottom line this is a VERY UNUSUAL car that really attracts attention. Looks great driving down the road and gets lots of THUMBS UP! Car is priced accordingly to it’s condition. Keep in mind this is much more unusual than a Chevelle of the same year and we all know that those cars are not CHEAP!

Again feel free to call or message any questions you may have.

Interesting Facts: In 1964 and 1965, GM of Canada sold an "Acadian Beaumont" based on the Chevelle A-body platform, and continued to sell the Chevy II-based Acadian.[2] By 1966, the Acadian was clearly Chevy II-based, and the Beaumont was Chevelle-based. Many people considered the cars to be Pontiacs, but GM marketed them as a separate marque. All model years are primarily Chevrolet, with only minor trim differences and (for Chevelle-based cars) Pontiac Tempest/LeMans-based instrument panels. This is because Canada required GM to have a certain percentage of Canadian content in the vehicles sold there.[2] The popular Beaumont became available in three series on the Acadian - Beaumont Standard, Beaumont Custom, and Beaumont Sport Deluxe. A base-trimmed Beaumont Standard convertible was also offered, a model also produced in the base Chevelle line in Canada, but not in the United States..

The grille is the most obvious and striking difference from the Chevelle, while the rear panel on the trunk lid is also unique. Chrome-accented "gills" on the quarter panels, ahead of the rear wheels, were specific to the Sport Deluxe trim. Fortunately, replacement sheetmetal is easy to locate, because it's all Chevelle.

Inside is a different story. Rather than employ the Chevelle or Malibu interior, the Acadian Beaumont models used Tempest/Le Mans-based hardware and trim. Mostly. The dashboard is the same as the Tempest, which looks just like the GTO dash, apart from the Goat's engine-turned insert around the gauges. The seats and upholstery pattern are also from the Pontiac models, except for a significant detail: The embossed arrowhead insignia in the seatbacks. Because they weren't technically Pontiac models, the Acadian Beaumonts didn't receive the insignia. There is one Chevy part in the cabin: the center console. It's straight out of the Chevelle.
